MOVING UPWARDS IN BED

AIMS
Elderly

  • understands the meaning of independent moving and transferring
  • can move upwards in bed without transferring aids and if needed with a transferring aid
  • activates muscles
  • decreases spasticity of muscles

METHOD / ACTIVITY
Instructions to the carer

  • flex your knees
  • rotate your body first to your right, take hold of the bed side if possible
  • push with your feet and pull with your hand
  • rotate then to the left and repeat the movements
  • flex your knees again
  • repeat as many times as needed to get to the pillow

Carer

  • guide the movements above (124, 126)
  • put a slide obstacle under the feet if needed (131)
  • guide the transfer from the buttocks and on the feet
  • put a mini-slide under the shoulders to the rolling direction (130, 132, 136)
  • guide the lift of the hip and the pushing of the feet
